This citrus-heavy strain was first introduced to the cannabis world by none other than Swamp Boys Seeds. Founded in 2006 by two Floridians, Cornbread Ricky and Krome, today Swamp Boys Seeds are known as the original purveyors of legendary strains like Triangle Kush (aka OG Kush).
Lemon Royale Strain Genetics
Swamp Boy’s version of Lemon Royale was created when they crossed a Lemon Tree plant with a GMO one and their signature in-house strain, Triangle Kush. Others assert the parentage is actually Lemon Tree X GMO/TK Skunk.
The most notable version of Lemon Royale, however, is arguably District Cannabis’ take on it. After all, District Cannabis’ focus is to cater to medicinal cannabis patients by “grow[ing] the cleanest and most effective medicine possible.”
District was formed by Andras Kirschner, whose background is in Sustainable Agriculture, and Edward Weidenfeld. Weidenfield discovered cannabis when he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and has been an iconic advocate since.
District has pumped out a litany of beloved strains since including Sour Diesel and Gelato Cake. Their version of Lemon Royale is the product of Lemon Tree (Lemon Skunk x Sour Diesel) crossed with a (GMO X (Triangle Kush x Skunk #1) plant.

Lemon Royale Strain Effects
Like so many citrus centric strains the primary effect profile of Lemon Royale is energetic; one user described it as an “energetic body blast”. Users report feeling intense euphoria and uplifted mood almost immediately. This strain is also known to inspire concentration and focus, making it a great pick for getting things done around the house or tackling creative endeavors. Described as “blissful” by some consumers, Lemon Royale is special in that it energizes and relaxes the mind at once, easing away stress like a popsicle under the hot sun. The experience is fairly balanced in body and mind, but might lean a little more cerebral. It’s also a strain that’s great for socializing, concerts, a trip to the beach or a yoga session; anything that involves getting active or moving.
Medical patients report using this strain for a number of conditions including stress, anxiety, depression and PTSD. Other conditions that may derive therapeutic effect from Lemon Royale use include chronic pain, inflammation, fatigue, appetite loss and muscle spasms.
Some side effects reported with use of this strain include dry eyes, dry mouth, anxiety and rapid heartbeat.
Lemon Royale Strain Profile
District Cannabis’ Lemon Royale is a treat for the eyes. Extremely fluffy dark green buds are covered in long, thin yellow hairs and a thick coating of trichomes that almost glitters with forest green sugar leaves. Buds are long and foxtail or heart shaped; some trichomes may appear to have a yellow-ish hue. User beware: this is an extra frosty strain that can easily clog the most experienced of grinders.
The first smell you’re greeted with, of course, is the signature blast of fruity, sour lemons. Other smells begin to creep up including a faint pepperiness, notes of freshly cut grass, skunky earth with some gas/fuel lingering in the background. Some users have even reported a ‘butter’ like taste on the tongue. The overall experience provides a long lasting lemon gas flavor with a dash of pine/grass/herbs.
Breaking apart buds begins to reveal skunky, earthy notes with some funk. Smoking them, however, quickly returns the sour lemon flavor, finishing with lasting sweet fuel notes on the tongue that can feel almost tart.
Swamp Boy Seeds, on the other hand, describe their version as having, “a spicy dead meat undertone” with added purpling and a “treasured TK aftertaste.” They note it is a fast finisher with “a frost [trichomes] that challenges The White”, their other signature strain.
The primary terpene in this strain is, of course, Limonene. Secondary terpenes found here include Beta-Caryophyllene, Beta-myrcene and Terpinolene. Other terpenes that may be detected in trace amounts may include Humulene and Pinene.
Some versions of this strain may also contain moderate levels (1-2%) of “the mother” cannabinoid, Cannabigerol (CBG).
Lemon Royale Grow Tips
This happy go lucky strain is said to be easy to grow. It can be grown in or outdoors, and has a typical flowering time of 56 to 63 days. Growers seeking high yields should ensure the plant grows in a warm environment and closely monitor humidity levels. Ideal harvesting time for outdoor grows is in mid-October. This is also a strain that works well with Sea of Green and Screen of Green cultivation techniques.
