Tiger Rose

Tiger Rose is a medical cannabis strain native to Washington, D.C. and is a hybrid cross of Topanga Zkittlez x Blood Orange. This strain was created by medical cannabis cultivator AltSol (Alternative Solutions), which offers it at local dispensaries classified as an indica hybrid. AltSol grows their buds at Alternative Solutions Cultivation Center in Ward 5 Washington, D.C., which means fresh batches are all sold fewer than five miles from the grow facility.

Tiger Rose Strain Genetics

Currently in its ninth round of cultivation using cuts from a mother plant, Tiger Rose was crossed using a Blood Orange (Cali Orange x Appalachia) clone and a male Topanga Zkittlez (Grape Topanga x Zkittlez Cake) hunted from Jungle Boys seed stock. The resulting strain was the first ever strain bred in a legal facility in DC and has been a staple in AltSol’s catalog for the last few years. Tiger Rose is notable for its blood orange citrus rind scent with strong flavor parity, a purely relaxing effect, and a comfortable level of potency. The strain consistently tests in the 25-30% THC range from dense, green soil grown buds with well kept pistils and dense resin development.

Tiger Rose was hunted in a large pheno hunt, so the expression is distinct and potent despite likely being an F1 hybrid. This strain is an even mix of the heady, cerebral and energizing effect from the Blood Orange with the chest effect, muscle relaxation and creative buzz from the Zkittlez Cake. Despite a high THC test result, this strain has a relatively short effect period under a regular dose. Tiger Rose is a cultivar with anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties as well as being helpful for alleviating panic symptoms due to traits acquired from its parent crosses. Tiger Rose is one of the most popular medical cannabis strains in Washington, D.C. and is available as flower, tinctures and vape cartridges from Bunji Bros.

Tiger Rose Strain Profile

Tiger Rose mostly gets its appearance traits from its Topanga Zkittlez father, as the buds are small, dense, and bulbous. The buds are almost entirely lime green with thick full-length pistils and small but densely arranged trichomes. Tiger Rose only has one calyx layering peak, as opposed to multiple, and the buds have been expertly trimmed by AltSol’s staff. Tiger Rose expresses scents of citrus peels, fermented grape and raw dough with peppery and grassy undertones. The cultivar is flavorful of similar notes as the scent both combusted and vaporized, as well as smooth on the throat even months out from purchase.

Tiger Rose Strain Effects

Tiger Rose has genetic traits that express as both energetic and relaxing effects that would be classically associated as an even hybrid. The compound cerebral feelings with the mind and full body relaxation result in a strain that has users feeling floaty with a sense of mental clarity. This strain is suitable for just about any lifestyle as it leaves users feeling refreshed post-session instead of exhausted like most commercially available hybrids.

Tiger Rose is reported with 0% CBD so this strain may not be suitable for patients looking for pain relief. With THC amounts reported at nearly 29% on the 8th generation release, the strain may also be useful as a sleep aid. Due to DC lab standards, Tiger Rose has not been tested for terpene content.

Tiger Rose Cultivation

Tiger Rose was bred from a Blood Orange clone and a Topanga Zkittlez male from seed. This strain is an AltSol exclusive and has not yet been made available from cut or seed. While one retailer in Florida claims to have Tiger Rose on their menu from Bermuda Triangle Seeds, that claim could not be verified, as Bermuda Triangle does not have Tiger Rose listed in their current available selection (as of 2/2022) nor was it found listed and archived. Tiger Rose completed its first production harvest in April 2021 and is now set to release its ninth generation harvest.

Tiger Rose Strain Review

I purchased Tiger Rose on 9/18/2021 and got an eighth ounce sample of their 8th generation of the strain. My sample had a pungent scent of blood orange rinds with hints of fuel and chlorophyll, which brings a mental association of barbecuing in the freshly mowed backyard under a citrus tree. The expression is a nearly perfect blend of the two parents.

Smoking and vaping the flower, the flavor was almost the same as the scent – a feat many strains never accomplish – and was also quite smooth on the throat regardless of smoking media. Tiger Rose was also notable for its exceptionally stimulating effects without any feelings of lethargy or over exertion. The effects were a mixture of body relaxation with cerebral energy and focus, While the high doesn’t last comparatively long, the unique feelings and the smattering of distinct flavors compensates. Alt Sol’s cardboard tube packaging was also adequate for medium term storage, resulting in smooth vapor even four months after purchase.
