Review: Bruce Banner

Washington DC medical marijuana cultivator Alternative Solutions, aka AltSol, has been an absolute blessing to the city’s program since they entered the market in 2016 and they’ve only gotten better with time. It’s growing more comfortable buying their flower without being able to smell it first because they put out so many bangers these days — Berry Cinex, Panama Red, Hindu Kush…

AltSol’s Bruce Banner has overtaken them all in the Gentleman’s medicine cabinet because its effects are ideal for morning/daytime use (or any other time you need to remain productive or focused). The nose on this flower is distinctly pine, with citrus undertones, and creates a smooth, flavorful smoke. Smoking this Bruce Banner eliminates anxiety as it brings my thoughts into a soft, organized focus. I move from one fluffy cloud to the next in an orderly fashion all the way down my to-do list for the day, without any lingering exhaustion from the high. I like to smoke it before walking the dogs, too, since it helps me be present in the moment with them, but you’ll find it doesn’t hamper any physical activity you care to pursue, whether it be a quiet hour of yoga or a vigorous roller-derby death match (I don’t know what people get up to these days, I don’t get out much). I assume we’re nearing the pre-Mad Max phase of the timeline so I’m busy kitting out my bunker. Do you have any idea what chrome spikes cost these days? It’s highway robbery.

Review: Blood Orange

We’ve been curious about Blood Orange since it dropped from DC medical cultivator AltSol last year after we tried their Tiger Rose. Compared to many of the strains we’ve tried, Blood Orange is one of the smoothest and most therapeutic samples we’ve evaluated. Now trying it ourselves, Blood Orange is so obviously special in the flavor and effect that we strongly recommend all sativa lovers get it whenever it hits DC dispensary shelves- it won’t last long, I promise.

Blood Orange is a cross between (Appalachia x Cali Orange Bud), an offshoot of the popular strain Tangie. We’ve described strains like Lemon Tree being pure lemon rind in flavor with no other hybrid expressions, and Blood Orange is similar but expressed as an orange peel instead. The smoking experience from the fluffy, resinous, bright green nugs was quite smooth and saturated with flavor. The effect is uplifting & long-lasting, but with a mellow potency. It’s a great strain to take with your morning coffee to clear the cobwebs from your brain, and finding such  unadulterated orange flavor is a rare treat. AltSol hits the nail on the head with Blood Orange.

Review: Fuel Biscuits

AltSol says their Fuel Biscuits are a cross of (Gelato x ‘09 Cookie) which results in tall nugs with thinner corrugated calyx peaks. The scent on this cross is dominated by sugary sweet notes but has undertones of chemical fumes and bitter earthiness. These features are mirrored by the flavor, and the scent/flavor leads us to believe the specific parents in the lineage are Gelato 33 backcrossed two generations to Thin Mint cut Cookie. If you’re looking for a smooth uplifting smoke that can satisfy your sweet tooth in the morning, Fuel Biscuits pairs perfectly with a morning coffee and is an easy sativa for us to recommend.
