Today I’m reviewing the award-winning Laughing Buddha strain. This 2003 High Times Cannabis Cup strain crosses Jamaican and Thai strains. This is a Sativa-Dominant hybrid strain, with an 18-20% THC. The Laughing Buddha strain is unlike any other cannabis strain due to its prominent terpene Valencence, which is rarely found in cannabis strains. This terpene is believed to promote euphoria and energy, which is what makes this strain amazing for social smoking.
Laughing Buddha Strain Review
The Laughing Buddha strain is marketed by famous breeder Barney’s Farm as good for depression and I am happy to report it does not disappoint. I started strain hunting last year when I became a medical marijuana patient in DC and Laughing Buddha is the best daytime medicine I have found. It immediately calms anxiety while leaving you clear-headed. The Buddha hits on every key point, providing a long-lasting burst of energy while elevating my spirit above petty concerns.
This cross of Thai and Jamaican heritage has a deep, earthy fragrance that reveals undercurrents of dark chocolate when ground. The smoke is smooth but thick and expansive, tricking you into taking larger hits that leads to coughing fits. Real Deal’s Gardenz did a nice job finishing these flowers. The contrast between the dark orange and red hairs covering the light green nugs puts me in mind of coconuts and I can imagine this plant growing on the beach of some remote, tropical paradise. The buds are pleasantly dense for a sativa and quickly regain their shape after a gentle press. I’m always glad to see smooth, white ash left in the pipe after a bowl, which is indicative of excellent organic gardening techniques.
How does Laughing Buddha strain feel?
Laughing Buddha is a laugh-inducing strain, perfect for boosting your moods. It will leave you very talkative and feeling incredibly euphoric. The high takes a few minutes to kick in but what I loved the most was how easy this strain was to function with. Due to the higher CBD concentration, the psychoactive effects are not overwhelming and it’s more of a heady high. Alongside a mild body high, this is a very nice Sativa, with a capital “S” making it the perfect social smoking strain with enough clarity to be productive as well.
Who this strain is for: If you are looking for a weed strain that has a powerful body high then Laughing Buddha is not recommended. For body management, I recommend Purple Punch or Cataract Kush. Laughing Buddha is perfect if you need a great beginner strain that boosts mood and is perfect for smoking in a social setting.
Why Laughing Buddha is perfect for social settings
The primary terpene found in Laughing Buddha is Myrcene, one of the most common terpenes found in cannabis strains such as OG Kush. Myrcene is found in hops and is believed to promote sedation and relax the muscles in studies done with infused teas. When I smoked the Laughing Buddha strain I felt calm and very relaxed but even more euphoric, which has a lot to do with the second dominant terpene: Valencene.
Valecene is a rare terpene found in cannabis plants and is believed to synergize with cannabinoids to produce euphoric and energizing effects. What I loved most about smoking this strain was how relaxed and euphoric I felt, but at the same time how motivated and social I was. This is why I recommend this strain for beginners and people who like to smoke cannabis socially because of the perfect balance of relaxation, energy, and mood boost.
Why Buddha weed strain is a great mood booster
The third most dominant terpene found in Laughing Buddha is the Sabinene terpene which is usually a rare terpene found in cannabis. A 2013 study found that essential oils containing Sabinene, such as water hemlock, demonstrated a strong anti-inflammatory activity. More research is necessary to understand just how much terpenes like Sabinene have an impact on the human body with cannabis.
Ocimene is the fourth most dominant terpene found in the Laughing Buddha strain. Ocimene terpenes can be found in hops, basil, pepper, and lavender and are most common in Sativa dominant strains. While more research is needed, Ocimene is believed to produce an energetic effect. Both the Ocimene terpene and the Valecene terpene found in Laughing Buddha help to promote energy and euphoria which is why I recommend this strain for social smoking. The psychoactive components give you the perfect head high great for laughter and conversating in social settings.
What does Laughing Buddha taste and smell like?
The terpenes in cannabis play a critical role in how Laughing Buddha strain feels and tastes. The four primary terpenes found in this strain are Myrcene, Valencence, Sabinene, and lastly Ocimene.
Laughing Buddha has a very fruity and sweet smell, with an undertone of spiciness. When I smoked this strain I tasted the sourness and sweetness, but what was most notable was the roasted pepper aftertaste on the tongue. Both the Ocimene and Valencene contribute to the citrus and sweet flavors, while the Sbinene terpene contributes to the spicy and peppery flavors, giving a uniquely contrasting flavor profile.
What does Buddha strain look like?
Laughing Buddha nugs are typically hard in nature but my Laughing Buddha was a bit fluffy and dense as shown in the photo above. Nugs typically have light or dark green foliage, a nice coat of trichomes, and orange pistils. You can also find some brownish undertones in the foliage as well.
