In House Genetics

In House Genetics is the team behind some of the most popular weed strains of the last decade, including the popular Slurricane, Truffle Cake, and Twisted Velvet. Their micro-breeding approach to craft cannabis results in some truly innovative terpene profiles- not to mention dank buds. Here’s our take on a few of our favorite IHG strains.

Review: Twisted Velvet

Twisted Velvet is a cross of Purple Hulk and Velvet Cookies bred by In House Genetics. Picture a lush canvas with a mix of deep purples and emerald greens that swirl together within amber-colored pistils. Its bulbous and dense nugs shimmer with a layer of frosty trichomes, giving them an almost velvet like texture that is both tactile and visually mesmerizing. Close your eyes and imagine strolling through a psychedelic garden filled with flowers that emit a symphony of scents. Twisted Velvet opens its fragrant arms to embrace you with a delightful blend of earthy sweetness, that reminds us of fresh soil after a spring thunderstorm. Hints of berries and touches of floral essence dance in the background, whispering promises of the sensory journey to come. One whiff in and we felt like we just stepped into a tea party with the Mad Hatter himself, where the aroma on this strain was the guest of honor.

Once we inhaled, we found ourselves enveloped in a warm, velvety embrace of tranquility. It’s like sinking into a plush armchair, wrapped in a cozy blanket. As the smoke swirled around us, colors became more vibrant, sounds became more melodious, and laughter seemed to escape us more often. As the smoke caresses your taste buds, Twisted Velvet reveals its enchanting flavor profile. It’s like sipping a cup of blackberry tea. The smoothness of the smoke is remarkable, coating your palate with a velvety sensation. Upon exhaling, a wave of sweetness lingered on our taste buds. Twisted Velvet is a strain that invites you to unwind, explore your passions, and find your own unique path.

Review: Truffle Cake

We don’t typically wake & bake using Kush Mints or Glue genetics, but after trying this Truffle Cake, we’re starting to rethink that. If you’re someone who’s generally groggy in the morning, Truffle Cake would be best paired with some strong coffee, as this flower provides a warm, complimentary aroma to the best part of waking up (enjoy that jingle in your head all day!) It’s a nice reprieve from the ocean of Gelato on the market but forfeits none of the potency or duration we expect from modern genetics, not to mention a smooth smoking experience that really puts a pep in your step. A Step-Pepper! Sorry, the editor is stoned.

Truffle Cake is a cross of (White Truffle x Pancakes) from In-House Genetics and both those parents shine through in full force. The scent is a little bit of spearmint on top of a funky, gassy note with hints of chocolate on the back end, but the flavor is almost all kush. We were impressed by the sheer level of potency on the sample. We know that the hardcore equatorial sativas also tend to be quite potent, but the Truffle Cake was much denser in build than most of those sativas. It’s a strain that urges you to take a journey inward, exploring the vast landscapes of our own imagination, all while keeping us tethered to the cozy embrace of its soothing body high.

Slurricane

Review: Slurricane

Slurricane is a cross between (Do Si Dos x Purple Punch) originally by In-House Genetics. The grape soda over lemon icing aroma and tasting notes lead us to believe this version is the original hybrid F1, as the IX (in-cross) version we’ve tried before registered more as yogurt and frosting in flavor. The effect is one of the most potent eye-drooping feelings we’ve experienced, but it also provided us with nearly no burnout. Strains like this get smoked on heavy rotation.

Slurricane buds are adorned in a rich tapestry of colors. Deep shades of green intermingle with purple and fiery orange hairs. The trichome coverage is generous, giving it a crystalline, shimmering appearance. Slurricane gives resin development a new standard and that’s only scratching the surface. Inhaling this strain reveals a sweet taste that coats the palate. The aftertaste is pleasantly lingering, making each hit a smooth one. The high started with a gentle cerebral euphoria that quickly cascaded us into a profound body high. It’s as if a warm, comforting blanket enveloped us, easing away all the tension in our bodies before lulling us to sleep. If you’re looking for a high-quality sleepy strain, throw some Slurricane in your stash.
