Seed Junky Genetics

Seed Junky Genetics has gone from a small SoCal garage operation in the early 2000s to being universally recognized as dominant market force today. Seed Junky has had immense influence on the gene pool from which new cultivars are bred for years, as every genetic lineage nerd already knows. Their success formula has launched some of the biggest brands like Cookies, Jungle Boys and Doja to success with crosses like Permanent Marker, The Soap, Animal Mints and Georgia Pie. Their list of awards that J Beezy has won for his work with our favorite plant is as long as it is deserved.

Review: The Soap

The Soap is originally a hybrid made by Seed Junky Genetics that crosses (Kush Mints x Animal Mints) which makes it a Kush Mints backcross. We’ve been wanting to try The Soap (not to be confused with Deep East’s Zoap) ever since we saw it released on the Minntz debut lineup, especially after smoking quite a bit of Kush Mints this year. We were lucky enough to try a hybrid of The Soap called Bubble Bath earlier this year, which we loved for its gassy flavors and crushing potency.

The sample we received was perfectly fresh, caked in resin globules, and louder than a New York City construction site. While the scent and flavor are a bit reminiscent of a floral body wash or Dove soap, our palates were still hit with familiar gas, mint and cookie dough notes associated with the Mints strains. We appreciate this strain for its uplifting effect, refreshing comedown and saturated aromas. It’s quickly become a staff favorite.

Review: Ménage

We were excited to try the Ménage as we have never smoked this strain before. Ménage is a cross of four different strains, Zkittles x Triangle Kush Bx3 x Gelato 41 x Kush Mints and originally bred by Seed Junky Genetix. Menage’s dense buds exhibit aesthetically rich, emerald green leaves, boasting chestnut yellow pistils, all cloaked in a shaggy layer of trichomes. They glisten like a disco ball at a party, and that’s not even an exaggeration!

We caught ourselves taking extra deep sniffs just to savor the aroma a bit longer. Menage teased our olfactory senses with a beguiling blend of earthy notes, hints of citrus, and a touch of floral sweetness. The floral note is like a bouquet of freshly picked fruits and a hint of mint dancing in the air. It was like walking through a eucalyptus forest after a rain shower, with a bouquet of wildflowers in hand. The first toke unfolds its symphony of flavors with finesse. A complex profile, where the earthiness takes center stage, followed by subtle citrus undertones and a whisper of mint.

Smoking this strain is like savoring a high-quality herbal tea with a citrusy twist. Menage didn’t just flirt with our taste buds; it waltzed through our mind and body with a tantric charm. First, we felt a gentle cerebral buzz. Then, it cradles our body in a warm embrace. The initial heady euphoria gradually gives way to a soothing body relaxation. It’s as if our mind and body were engaged in a delightful dance of relaxation and bliss.

Review: Jealousy Pound Cake

Jealousy Pound Cake, which might be the ultimate Seed Junky candy gas flavor. This strain is a cross between (Jealousy x London Pound Cake), which is two of Seed Junky Genetics’ most popular chemovars to date. Surprisingly, this cross isn’t listed on any of Cookies’ or Minntz’ menus but definitely meets that expectation, reminding us of the NorCal versions of London Pound Cake from a couple of years ago.

When we received our sample at the store, we were astonished how saturated and powerful the aroma was right out of the bag. The nug structure has particularly lean longer foxtail calyx peaks as well as a manicured trim job. This sample makes a strong first impression. This sample was quite smooth and incredibly gassy when we tested it in the Volcano, filling the bag with heavy vapor that weighed our eyes way down. Jealousy Pound Cake is a perfect choice if you’re looking for a seriously potent indica.
