Blue Dream is a cross (DJ Short’s Blueberry x Super Silver Haze) and is one of the most notable mixed class hybrids alongside Northern Lights x Haze. A lot of cannabis enthusiasts have been clowning on Blue Dream for years now, especially since Gelato has effectively taken its place as the market-flooding standard. I sometimes refer to it as Blue Meme due to how often it serves as a punchline for esoteric industry jokes.
I’d never turn down or accept a bowl on strain name alone, which I mention both as general advice and also that I quite liked this batch.

Even though Blue Dream has been out of vogue for years now, there’s a lot to appreciate about a good sample of it, which is why we were excited to try this version of the classic. When we opened the bag, the nugs invoked a sense of nostalgia in both appearance and scent, and I can appreciate people running classic cuts with modern technique. Nostalgia aside, we can definitively say this is the prettiest sample of Blue Dream we’ve seen to date. These bright green nugs have more sprouts of bright orange hair than that feral calico aggressively banging surprised raccoons in the alley outside your window all night.
Most samples of Blue Dream we’ve tried have been Blueberry forward, which fills our nostrils with an almost cotton candy aroma. But this version was unusual in the way the highlights of the scent were the cocoa bean rubber notes from the Thai lineage. When we tried it in the Volcano, it hit us with energizing and focusing effects, after coating the mouth in a fermented berry wine flavor. The bud was also quite dense, fresh and resinous, which we always appreciate, especially since Haze crosses tend to be larfy.
This Blue Dream provided a calming, uplifting effect that reminded me why this strain became so popular in the first place, and why I actively sought it out in my early days of smoking. It’s kind of like McDonald’s after leaving a hazy house party: it just hits the spot. This batch was particularly potent, however- enough to keep my focus on my tasks, away from intrusive thoughts, with zero energy drain. Very good daytime meds, but these flowers aren’t gonna help you sleep.
