Review: La Chron

Big Al’s has been on roll in our testing over the last few months with their elite candy flavors that give us a peek at what’s popping off in California. With a name like La Chron and branding based on the popular line of seltzers, one might expect a sophisticated smoke with a whisper of flavor, but that couldn’t be further from the case here. This sample screams LOUD the moment you crack the bag, and that pungent candy aroma is just the beginning. Inside are dense, purple nugs that deliver a sense-smothering, red-eyed euphoria that harkens from a halcyon daze of yore…

We’re not quite sure what the genetics on La Chron are, but we suspect it’s Lemon Cherry Gelato crossed to either Gruntz or Black Runtz. The scent on our sample from Legacy is astringent candy, roughly split between sweet and tart, which is similar to many of the other Big Al’s Gushers crosses. The smoking experience is smooth and leaves your mouth coated with Kush breath. The effect on this potent cannabis is a total head-empty couch-lock, quite sedative, and with a rapid onset. However, it’s so relaxing and refreshing at the finish that we’re ready to smoke more and get faded all over again.

Review: Big Al’s Candy Crushers

Candy Crushers’ parents have not been revealed but it’s similar to many of the Gushers crosses I’ve had from Backpack Boyz and their adjacent labels. Big Al’s launched back in 2017 and is a big part of the reason for the Gushers strain’s fame today. Big Al’s Crushers (Gushers 2.0), Blue Crushers (Gushers 4.0), and Oakland Street Heat are typically sold alongside Backpack Boyz in stores and on the traditional market.

The nose is candy sweet with very little gas or astringency, and the fresh buds appear quite purple pre- and post-grind. Gushers has become one of my favorite strains because of the reliable “lungs full, head empty” feeling it imparts. Gushers and its relations are one of the most effective stoney and couch lock strains, ideal for smoking post-work or before bed, what might classically be described as a pure indica. Candy Crushers hit me with just the kind of red-eye potency I was expecting, especially for the price tag. We’d recommend it to anyone looking to try hype Cali candy strains or simply in need of high-quality buds to help you get to sleep.

Review: Blue Crushers

Our sample of Blue Crushers has the delightfully sweet flavor and killer potency that we expect from the best brands in California. Blue Crushers is Big Al’s 4th generation of Gushers (Gelato #41 x Motorbreath 15) and everything about it tells us that it’s one of the best Gushers expressions around. Most noticeable from this strain were the resinous flower and crushing potency (as the name suggests). We smoked this for our last sample of the day, and it was perfect for night time vibes. This strains is for enthusiasts who truly want to treat themselves, as there are few little treats as sweet as Blue Crushers.
